BEFORE TINTING A CARS WINDOWS
In automotive window tinting preparation is the single most important step to insuring a successful tinting job. We start off by cleaning the window with a mixture of Joy dish-washing liquid and water and we use a brand new razor blade to scrape the surface clean. The mixture of dish soap lubricates and softens what’s there and allows for it to be completely removed. The next step is that we squeegee clean the surface, wiping up any excess moisture as we go.
TYPES OF AUTOMOTIVE WINDOW TINTING FILM
There are 3 main types of film that are used in window tinting: non-metallic window tinting film is what we use because, unlike metallic window tinting films it doesn’t interfere with AM/FM antennas or GPS systems that are built in to your cars windshield. The third type of window tinting film is the dyed films which we don’t use because it is less durable, has only a 3-5 year warranty and can fade in that time.
We use Johnson Window Tinting Film exclusively: they are a local Los Angeles window tinting film company. They offer 5 different shades of film, all of it with a lifetime warranty against peeling, cracking, bubbling or fading. We carry all shades of window tinting film with us and custom cut the film to fit your car. Even rounded back windows are covered with a one piece fitting of window tinting film. Johnson Window Tinting Film is based in Carson, California. Support your local economy AND your local window tinter.
Johnson Window Tinting Film has been shown to block out 99% of harmful UV rays. UV or ultraviolet radiation is not only bad for your interior, causing it to age, dry and crack, but its bad for YOU as well.
Window Tinting Film adheres to your car’s windows with a water activated adhesive. It’s probably safe to roll your windows down or to get them wet within 24 hours but we recommend a 3 day set in period just to make sure. Once its dry you can treat your car normally.
RE-TINTING A CAR THAT’S ALREADY HAD ITS WINDOWS TINTED
Re-tinting a car is more work because first the old tint needs to be completely removed and then the surface has to be thoroughly cleaned before tinting the windows again. The proper way to begin a automotive window re-tinting job is to use a steam cleaner. Many mobile tinter’s don’t have a steamer but we do! A razor blade is still employed to get all of the tint and any residue off of the window but it requires the utmost in attention because the cars defroster lines need to be protected. About 30% of my mobile window tinting work is re-tints, people obviously appreciate the many benefits of automotive window tinting and want their windows tinted again.
BUBBLE IN WINDOW TINT
Bubbles occur because of poor installation or cheap film. It pays to use quality and that’s why we use Johnson Window Tinting Film. We take our time, do the best steaming/cleaning/preparation in the business and get perfect results.
AUTOMOTIVE WINDOW TINTING ADDS VALUE!
Automotive Window Tinting is the most affordable aftermarket addition that can change the look and the value, of your car! Tinted cars have that sleek, finished look, like a piece of rolling art. Automotive Window Tinting preserves a cars resale value by protecting the interior from premature aging, drivers included. Just say NO to UV rays! Window tinting reduces glare making it easier and safer to drive.
TINTED WINDSHIELDS ARE ILLEGAL
While tinted windshields may be illegal I still get calls to do them and they actually make the car safer in an accident because the broken glass sticks to the film instead of flying around the passenger compartment. Many custom and show cars have tinted windshield.
PRICES FOR MOBILE AUTOMOTIVE WINDOW TINTING
Prices depend upon the make and model year of the vehicle. While all car windows have some curve certain vehicles have very curved back windshields that require more material and time to cover properly. I use the “dry shrinking” technique with a wet test at the end to ensure the best results possible.
